What is the Fashion Institute of Technology?

The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) is one of the premier fashion schools in the United States. It is a public college of art and design, business and technology located in New York City. FIT is part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system, and is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. History of FIT

FIT was founded in 1944 by the New York State Legislature as a specialized college for the training of professionals in the fashion industry. The first classes were held in 1945 in the former High School of Commerce building in Manhattan. The college moved to its current location in midtown Manhattan in 1978.

Since its founding, FIT has become one of the top fashion schools in the world, with students from all over the globe. FIT alumni have gone on to become some of the most successful designers, executives, and entrepreneurs in the fashion industry.
